Genepy delle Alpi by Borgo Vecchio is an alpine herbal liqueur at 30% vol in a 500 ml bottle, produced through a long cold infusion of wild Artemisia genepi gathered on the rocky slopes of the Trentino Alps. It is the classic mountain digestif: herbaceous, balsamic and gently bitter, with the characteristic genepi sprig bottled inside. Distilled in Valsugana by the Cavalin family since 1959.
What Genepy Is
Genepy (or genepi) is the traditional liqueur of the Alpine arc, prepared from Artemisia plants of the genepi group that grow above 2,000 metres on rock and scree. For centuries it has been the herb of high-mountain guides and shepherds, valued as a warming, digestive after-dinner drink. The Borgo Vecchio version stays close to that tradition: a cold infusion that extracts the aromatic oils of the plant without heat, preserving the clean, persistent herbal note.
The Producer: Distilleria Borgo Vecchio
Distilleria Borgo Vecchio has been run by three generations of the Cavalin family in Valsugana, in the heart of Trentino, since 1959. Grappa, liqueurs and gin are still made with artisanal craftsmanship, with attention to every stage of the process. The genepi liqueur is bottled with the addition of the genepi sprig and left to rest and stabilise before sale, so the plant continues to release its aroma in the bottle.
Tasting Profile
Pale straw colour with greenish reflections. On the nose, intense and clean herbal aromatics: mountain herbs, balsamic and resinous notes, a hint of camphor and honey. On the palate it is smooth, moderately sweet and finishes dry and bitter, with the persistent bitterness typical of Artemisia. At 30% vol it is rounded rather than aggressive.
Technical Specifications

Professional Uses
Serve neat and cool at 8-10 °C in a small tulip glass as an after-dinner digestif, the most authentic alpine way. Serve ice-cold straight from the freezer after a meal of cheese, polenta or game. Use in mountain-style cocktails, for example with sparkling wine or in a genepi sour with lemon and a touch of sugar. Add a measured dash to chocolate ganache, zabaione or spoon desserts for a herbal lift. Pour a small amount over dark chocolate or a fruit sorbet at the end of a tasting menu.
Pairings
It is the natural close to a meal of alpine cheeses, cured meats and dark chocolate. It also pairs with espresso coffee in the classic caffè corretto and rounds off a board of mature cheeses and grappa.
