What dried coconut chips are
Coconut chips are obtained from the white flesh of the coconut, which is harvested, peeled, washed, cut into broad flakes and dried. Unlike fine desiccated coconut, the wide chip format keeps more bite and visual appeal, making it a favourite for decoration and snacking. Rapunzel uses only the fruit, with nothing added, so the flavour stays true to fresh coconut.
Origin and producer
The coconut is grown under controlled organic farming in Sri Lanka, one of the historic homes of coconut cultivation. The brand belongs to Rapunzel Naturkost, founded in 1974 in Bavaria by Joseph Wilhelm and Jennifer Vermeulen and headquartered since 1985 in Legau, in the Allgau region of Germany. Family-owned to this day, Rapunzel is one of Europe's leading organic food producers, built on the founding idea of controlled organic, natural and vegetarian food.
Sensory profile
The chips are pale ivory with golden edges, firm and crisp, releasing a sweet, milky coconut fragrance. Naturally unsweetened, they carry a clean nutty taste that works in both sweet and savoury preparations.
Professional uses
- Decorate cakes, tarts and plated desserts with raw or lightly toasted chips for texture and visual contrast.
- Fold into muesli, granola, smoothie bowls and breakfast offerings.
- Build energy bars, pralines and pastry fillings.
- Toast briefly in a dry pan, around 150 to 160 C, until golden to deepen the aroma for Asian dishes, curries and rice.
- Use as a crunchy topping for yoghurt, ice cream and vegan desserts.
Storage and handling
Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct light. The pack is sealed in a protective atmosphere; once opened, reseal tightly to preserve crunch and aroma. Avoid humidity, which softens the chips.
