Organic Sun Snack pumpkin seeds: nutty, crunchy, naturally hull-less
Sun Snack organic pumpkin seeds are oil-pumpkin (Olkurbis) kernels that are naturally hull-less, grown in Austria and Hungary with the heart of production in Styria. Supplied in a resealable 250 g bag, BIO-certified, they are rich in magnesium, zinc, iron and vitamin E, with roughly 50% healthy fats. A shelf-stable dry product, they are equally at home as a crunchy topping or worked into doughs.
What are oil-pumpkin seeds
The Styrian oil pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca) produces seeds that have no woody hull by nature, so the deep-green kernel needs no shelling. The same seeds are pressed in Styria into the famous dark pumpkin-seed oil. Their thin skin and high oil content give a soft bite and an intense, hazelnut-like flavour that deepens with light roasting.
Origin: Austria and Hungary, Styrian tradition
These seeds come from Austria and Hungary, with the cultivation and processing know-how rooted in the Styrian oil-pumpkin tradition. They are harvested and cleaned with care, then gently dried to preserve the green colour and the nutrients.
The brand: Sun Snack
Sun Snack is a Swiss brand based in St. Margrethen, specialised in organic seeds, dried fruit and nuts for the Swiss market. The 250 g format is built for daily professional use as well as for retail sale.
Flavour and texture
Raw, the kernels are soft and mildly nutty. Dry-roasted, they turn crisp and release a rich, toasted aroma. The hull-less form means no fibrous shell to remove, so they can go straight onto a plate or into a dough.
Technical specifications
Net content 250 g per resealable bag. BIO-certified organic. Country of origin Austria. Store between 15 and 22 degrees C, below 60% humidity, away from direct light and heat to prevent the oils from going rancid. No cold chain required, which makes them an excellent long-term pantry stock for professional kitchens.
Professional uses
Dry-roast for 4-6 minutes and scatter over salads, pumpkin veloutes, risotto and grain bowls; fold into bread, breadstick, focaccia and cracker doughs; blitz into savoury crumbs and crusts for fish or vegetables; blend into pesto in place of pine nuts; or build protein bars and snack mixes. They also reinterpret the Neapolitan spassatiempo, the old street snack of roasted seeds, chickpeas and nuts.
Pairings
Pair with pumpkin and squash dishes, soft and aged cheeses, honey, dark bread and salad leaves. Cross-sell with extra-virgin olive oil, flours for bread and pizza, and other seeds and dried fruit from the LAPA range.
