Noccioletto Originale Mangini: the hazelnut that conquered the world
The Noccioletto Originale by Mangini is a whole roasted hazelnut coated in pure milk chocolate (minimum 30% cocoa), with a hazelnut content of 40%, supplied in a 1 kg resealable bag. It is the most famous specialty of Mangini S.p.A. and a global symbol of Italian hospitality: for decades it has been the welcome courtesy offered in hotel lobbies, boutiques and jewellery shops, and the classic companion to an after-dinner espresso. Ambient storage, 497 kcal per 100 g, 180-day shelf life.
What the Noccioletto is
The Noccioletto is a single roasted hazelnut individually enrobed in milk chocolate. The contrast is the heart of the product: the dry crunch of the toasted nut against the velvety, melting sweetness of the chocolate shell. It belongs to the great Italian tradition of cioccolatini (chocolate confections) and remains, after decades, the most recognised product in the Mangini range, sold across the world.
The producer: Mangini S.p.A.
Mangini S.p.A. is based in Bosco Marengo, in the province of Alessandria (Piedmont), in Italy's historic confectionery and chocolate heartland. Its story begins in the post-war years and develops from 1981, with over 40 years of tradition and innovation in candies and chocolate. The company builds its identity on selected raw materials and on the safety and quality of its products. The Noccioletto is its flagship reference, distributed in Italy and worldwide. (Distribution to LAPA: ALIGRO Demaurex & Cie SA.)
Sensory profile
A whole hazelnut, roasted to release its aromatic oils, sits at the centre. The milk-chocolate coating (minimum 30% cocoa) adds a rounded, milky sweetness with cocoa and toasted notes. On the palate the experience is two-phase: the chocolate melts first, then the hazelnut snaps with a clean, persistent nutty finish. A balanced, never cloying sweetness, suited to both standalone tasting and professional use.
Professional uses
The Noccioletto is a versatile ingredient and a finished mignon at the same time. Five professional uses: serve one or two pieces on the saucer with espresso as the classic Italian after-dinner courtesy; use as decoration on semifreddo, mousse and chocolate cakes; chop coarsely into crumble for artisanal hazelnut gelato or as a topping for cremini; arrange on petit-four platters and mignardise displays for buffets, banqueting and coffee breaks; use whole to garnish plated desserts, panettone slices and Christmas pastry. The resealable 1 kg bag allows flexible portioning without waste.
Pairings
Espresso and ristretto are the natural pairing, as in the historic hotel-courtesy service. Excellent with cappuccino, hot chocolate and, at the end of a meal, with Marsala, passito or aged rum. In pastry it pairs with hazelnut and gianduja creams, milk-chocolate ganache and vanilla semifreddo. For Christmas displays it accompanies panettone, torrone and dried fruit.

Common mistakes to avoid
Do not store near heat sources or above 18 degrees: milk chocolate blooms (white film) and loses gloss. Do not refrigerate without protection: condensation on removal causes sugar bloom and a dull surface. Do not leave the bag open: the hazelnut takes up humidity and loses its crunch, so reseal after each use. Do not serve straight from a cold store with coffee: bring to room temperature so the aroma opens up.
