Elenka was founded in 1959 by Antonino Galvagno in Partanna Mondello, on the edge of Palermo. It started out making distillates and liqueurs for the city's bars; one of them, the "Zuppa Inglese", turned out to be perfect for gelato and became a legendary flavour. Elenka then created Dariloy, one of the first balanced bases for gelato, and built an international reputation with its nut pastes: the pistachio paste has won awards at Sigep in Rimini and Artoza in Athens, while the "Oro Verde" pistachio won recognition at Intersuc in Paris.
