What aronia berries are
Aronia, or chokeberry, is a dark purple berry known for its high antioxidant and vitamin C content. The berries are harvested ripe, optically selected to remove defects, and individually quick-frozen (IQF) shortly after picking to preserve their nutritional value without added sugar or preservatives.
Characteristics
No added sugar, rich in fibre, a source of folic acid and vitamin C, with antioxidant properties. Average nutritional values per 100 g: 49 kcal/208 kJ, protein 1.42 g, carbohydrate 9.68 g (of which sugars 4.36 g), fat 0.53 g.
Professional uses
A practical substitute for fresh fruit in smoothies, breakfast bowls with cereals and yoghurt, ice cream, whipped cream, tarts and cakes. A recommended intake of at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day applies, with one portion equal to 120 g.
